Photo Every Day 2025
Soon enough I will be moving on to sharing photos from our recent trip to Atlanta as a family. First, though, I still have a couple more photos to share from Jackson, MS.
This first photo is of an old Greyhound station. But this isn’t just any old Greyhound station.
On May 24, 1961, a group of black and white men and women who called themselves “Freedom Riders” attempted to use the bus station’s “whites-only” facilities. They were arrested for trespassing and charged with breach of peace. These arrests helped spur the federal government to end segregation in interstate transportation.
Jackson, MS is also where the famous “Woolworth Sit-Ins” took place (though the sit-ins also took place in Greensboro, NC). Unfortunately the Woolworth in Jackson is no longer there, but I am glad that this old Greyhound still stands as a reminder of how far we have come as a nation.
