Photo Every Day 2026

I took this photo while in Jerusalem, last month. According to Christian tradition, attested from the 4th century, this location (or its predecessor) is the site of the “upper room” of the Last Supper (Mark 14, Luke 22) and the site of Pentecost (Acts 2). A Byzantine basilica known as Hagia Sion (“Holy Zion,” “Mother of All Churches”) stood nearby; Crusaders rebuilt on the site as part of the Abbey of Mount Zion. After the Crusader period, Franciscans held the site from the 14th century until the Ottomans took control. You can see that it has Muslim influence added to it, at this point, but it is an interesting site, nevertheless.
