Photos from Kenya 2023
After we wrapped things up at the widow’s house, our team made our way to the local school building in the village. I couldn’t resist taking a photo of the school house.
We had an entire afternoon of activities planned, and everyone from the village and surrounding areas came out to be a part of the big event.
One thing that I thought was interesting was that even though there were hundreds of people gathered around and waiting for the activities to start, we did not dare start any activities until the most important person in the village showed up. As soon as the village chief arrived, then (and only then) were we able to start the activities.
It was actually neat to see the level of respect they showed for the village chief. It is hard to imagine an equivalent situation here in the United States.
Imagine a high school football game with all of the fans in attendance and both teams just waiting around until the village mayor showed up to let the game begin. That would be very similar to what happened as we waited around at the school in Kairungu.
