Photo Every Day 2024

I have decided to do something a little different this month. I have complied a list of 25 photos I want to take and post in December. Each day I will attempt to cross one of the items off of the list.

Today is a fun one! One of the things I wanted to do with this challenge was to stretch myself a bit to try some photos I wouldn’t otherwise think to try. When I created my list, I included a “Light Bokeh” photo. When Jodi and the kids saw the list, they instinctively asked, “What’s that?” Well, here it is.

This is just a photo of our Mary & baby Jesus manger scene figurine sat on the corner of our kitchen table with our Christmas tree in the background. But with the way the photo is focused, our otherwise smallish Christmas tree lights have blown up into light orbs in the background. That is called light bokeh.

Deciding to be even a little more adventurous, I tried a quick, little craft project that I had read about. I took a simple piece of construction paper, folded it around the lens of my camera, and cut a simple cross design out of it.

Now check out what happens when I take basically the same photo of the Mary & baby Jesus manger scene figurine with this crude filter attached to the lens of my camera…

How cool is that?! This simple construction paper filter turned all of those regular Christmas tree lights into crosses. Wild!
