Photo Every Day 2024
On the first day of posting photos from my “Tuesday Night Drive” collection, I posted a photo of a typical Amish farm not far from my house. A few people pointed out that you could see some of the Amish people working in the photo. It was not the focus, but you could see them if you looked closely.
It is fairly well known that Amish prefer to not have their photo taken. This is typically because they believe that it is a violation of the Second Commandment (“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”). Most of the Amish that I know, however, don’t really mind their photo being taken from a distance, just as long as it is being done respectfully.
So… it is with respect for the Amish of our community that I share this photo, which I think highlights at least a couple of the admirable traits of the Amish community.
First, notice that there is a storm rolling in and this guy is just out there getting it done! The Amish know how to work!
Second, notice the son not far behind the father. He is watching and learning. The Amish are exceptional at training their kids and passing skills on to the next generation.
Third, notice the quality of the driveway (or the lack of quality, as you may see it) that the father is faithfully working on. It may not be the same quality that many of us are used to (I have a concrete driveway, myself), but the Amish work hard to maintain and take care of what they have. They strive to be good stewards of what the LORD has given them.
