Photo Every Day 2024

We are officially finished with the “hands on instruments” photos (which I rather enjoyed, personally), but I still have one more black & white photo to share before we get back to some color…

This is a random photo that I took of the classical guitar that I have sitting out in my living room.

This guitar probably gets played more than any other guitar in my house right now. I love the way that it feels, plays, and sounds. I love this guitar. However, I don’t really love this photo.

I was trying to take an interesting photo from the headstock down to the body. I wanted the blurred out body contrasting with the clear nylon strings on the first few frets. This was the first photo that I took of stringed instruments while I was taking photos of hands on instruments. In short, I was just messing around.

My feet kept getting into the photo, and I was struggling to keep the shadows from messing up the photo. As I look back, the angle is also off. This is not quite the photo that I wanted to take. So tonight I decided to take this photo again, this time paying more attention to those specific details.

Then I stopped myself.

I decided to share this particular photo, even though I don’t love it, as a bit of a reminder for me.

Photography doesn’t have to be perfect. Sometimes you are just capturing exactly what you are seeing in real life.

I am going to try to get better at paying attention to these details in the future, and I do hope to grow in my ability to take photos that I love, but I’m not always going to get it right. And that’s okay.

Just like with my ability to actually play this guitar… it took me a long time to get where I am, and I am a long way from where I want to be. But I keep moving forward.
