Photos from Maine 2023
For the past several days I have been posting photos that I took while Marlin Yoder and I traversed the Beehive Trail in Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, ME. On our way back down from the trail, we suddenly heard a lot of noise. We were not completely sure what we were hearing. It sounded like conversation in a crowd of people… but we were in the middle of the forest.
Then, looking to our left, we realized where all of the noise was coming from. Marlin pointed and said, “That’s where we were not too long ago!”
He was right! The noise was coming from a long line of travelers who were also making their way up the Beehive Trail.
I still do not understand what causes the vast majority of traffic jams. It seems that so many times you are stopped in slow-moving, barely moving, or completely stopped traffic, and then all at once everyone begins to move at regular speed again. That was what happened to us on the Beehive Trail. At one point we were just completely stopped. I have no idea why. Then, all of a sudden, we were moving at regular speed again.
Apparently these travelers were experiencing that same phenomenon as they made their way to the summit. Here is a closer look. You can’t tell by the photo, but these poor people are standing (or climbing) completely still. Once again there was a mysterious stoppage on the trail.
