#5kMay2019 Day 23 (BLOG)

Today was pretty much a clinic for “What Not To Do”.
I did not get my run in first thing in the morning. I opted to sleep in, which was probably a decent idea since it was pouring down rain first thing in the morning. I told myself I would run a little while after I woke up.
That didn’t happen.
I got caught up in a project that took me a little longer than anticipated. It was something that I have been putting off and that needed to be done, so I was glad to have a chance to knock it out. I was almost finished by lunch time, so I told myself I would run after lunch.
That didn’t happen.
I jumped back into the project after lunch and then moved on to a different project that I have been chipping away at, piece by piece. I told myself I would run before dinner.
That didn’t happen.
Jodi brought home some delicious Chipotle. That was a win for the nations! We had been talking about eating Chipotle as a family since running the marathon in Connecticut last week, but it never happened. We searched and searched on our way home, but the route we were on was essentially a barren wasteland with no Chipotle in sight. Now, finally, we had it!
To celebrate this momentous occasion, I decided to do something I rarely do these days… I drank a Coca-Cola classic with my delectable steak bowl!
Then I ran.
Again, this is a really good lesson in what not to do.
Thankfully, I had one good thing going for me -my daughter, Abigail, wanted to run the 5k with me!
So I put on my headlamp and we both took off for an epic, post-dinner 5k. She amazed me. She rocked it! We both kind of felt terrible with our beans, rice, sour cream and meat sloshing around in our stomachs, but our first mile clicked over at 9 minutes and 3 seconds. At that point, I told her, “This could be a really good run if you want to try to keep the pace.”
She did. She rocked it! We finished our 3.1 miles in 28 minutes and 35 seconds, which was an average pace of 9:12 per mile! She ran her fastest mile and her fastest 5k on a fully belly. It was pretty awesome!

I once went for run shortly after eating a Jimmy Johns. Yeah. Anyway I’m checking in. 24 days in.
Haha… that does sound delicious!
