44 Days Through the New Testament – Day 38

1 Peter 1-3

Peter was one of Jesus’ inner three among the 12 disciples. He had a unique closeness to the LORD. Along with James and John, Peter heard things directly from the mouth of Jesus and saw indescribable things happening to and through and around Jesus. It is out of this experience that Peter is able to write the way that he does.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1 Peter 1:3–5, ESV

This is so good! Let’s just linger here for a few moments and dive a little deeper into the text.

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has caused us to be born again to a living hope! He caused it! Talk about a good father! Our hope is alive because of the mercy of God. How did this all take place?

Through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, our hope has been made alive. We have a living hope! What’s more, it is an inheritance (which means that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is also OUR Father -which is why we have access to the inheritance) that is imperishable. It is undefiled. It is unfading. It is being kept in heaven for us.

Wow!

His great mercy has caused us to have a living hope that cannot be taken away. Not only can the hope that He has caused us to have not be taken away, but we ourselves are being guarded by the power of God.

This is incredible.

We are being guarded by God Himself through faith for a salvation that will be revealed in the last time. We have been saved. We are being saved. We will be saved. Is God good, or what?!

1 Peter 4 – 2 Peter 1

The news just keeps getting better. The picture of what God has done for us through Christ just keeps getting clearer. My gratitude keeps getting stronger.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…

2 Peter 1:3, ESV

Do you see what God has done for those of us who follow Christ?! His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. We have been given EVERYTHING that we need to live a good and godly life.

How did we obtain this treasure? It was granted to us by God’s divine power through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. We have been called to live like Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God the Father!

I’m in.
