Hebrews 13 – James 2
It seems especially fitting during this holiday season to consider more deeply the words of James in the seventeenth verse of the first chapter.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.James 1:17, ESV
In this season of gift giving, how fitting it is to remember the giver of every good and perfect gift -God Himself!
I don’t know about you, but it sure brings me an amazing amount of comfort to know that God does not change. There is no variation or shadow with God. What you see is what you get all of the time. Of course, I don’t mean what you see as in with your physical eyes, but as in what has been clearly revealed through the pages of Scripture.
God is the giver of EVERY perfect gift that we have ever received. The most perfect of all, by the way, was the gift of His own Son, Jesus.
What a good God!
One of the most difficult passages in all of the Bible for me to swallow is from James 4.
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.James 4:4, ESV
What a sobering thought! I do not want to be an enemy of God! But when it comes right down to it, am I more concerned about being a friend of the world than I am about being an enemy of God?
This was the verse that sparked a song that I wrote with three buddies of mine several years ago. It was a #Record&Release song from earlier this year called, “We Are Loved“.
