#5kMay2018 Day 10

IMG_5806This is a special day for me! I was awakened this morning by the love of my life asking me if I wanted to join her on a run. Today is our 15 year wedding anniversary. How could I possibly say “No” to that?!

So we ran.

We were both feeling the effects of day 10 and just took it a little slower than normal. Slow and steady wins the race, right? We ran a celebratory 3.1 miles at an average pace of 10:17. We finished our morning 5k in 34 minutes and 29 seconds. Then we walked and talked back to the house, enjoying the beautiful morning and the company.

In today’s scripture reading we officially finished Matthew and moved right into the gospel of Mark! I love the gospel of Mark! It moves so quickly. I think of it as the “exciting gospel”. No time is wasted by Mark in getting right into the life of Jesus. Perhaps this is because Mark’s gospel was mostly Peter’s account. Peter doesn’t seem like a sit-around-and-shoot-the-breeze kind of guy to me.

Buckle up, because by reading 3 chapters per day we will move through the gospel of Mark quickly.  There are only 16 short chapters, but they are packed full of first-hand snippets.

One of my favorite phrases from Jesus is spoken in today’s reading.

…“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17, ESV)

The truth is that none of us are well when it comes to being right with God on our own. We have all sinned and we have all fallen short of the glory of God. As a result, we all deserve death. The great irony is that only those who realize they are unworthy will become worthy. Only those who look at themselves and recognize that they are not well will run to the Great Physician to be healed.

Those who think they are righteous on their own will never be. Those who humbly approach God, knowing that they are a sinner unworthy of His grace, will receive amazing grace, infinite love, eternal salvation, the righteousness of Christ, and will be called worthy by God Himself.

  1. 10 days are done. I feel May is the fastest moving month. It was last year for me.
I ended up walking 3 miles in Wooster this morning and then had the opportunity to run tonight with Justin Holt. It was great being able to run with Justin since he’s running the 5k everyday and gave us a chance to get to know each other. We ran 3.1 miles and had a pace of 10:05. It was a beautiful evening to run.
I love the ending of Matthew. The Great Commission. It’s challenging because I have to look at my life and evaluate if I’m doing what God has called me to. Also the last sentence. And behold I am with you always, to the end of ages. God is always there. Through life tough times he is there. Through times of life going good he is there.
Now we are moving into the best book of the Bible. 😊

  2. We got our 5K in early this morning. It was a nice fresh morning and felt great! We also got our reading in. I am looking forward to reading Mark!

    • Good job! Buckle up, because Mark will be here and gone quickly at the rate of 3 chapters per day!

  3. We’ve been keeping right along! We walked early this 10th morning, and listened to the end of Matthew and the beginning of Mark.
