2Harts Surrendered “Lead Me Home”
In July of 2015, I spent a week recording a dynamic mother / daughter duo from Oklahoma, Tiffany and Skyler Swihart. They named themselves 2Harts Surrendered and released a really great first CD (“Trusting You”).
“Trusting You” was the first full-length album to be recorded and mixed completely in house at Taylor’s Playground Recording Studio. It was an album that I was personally very proud of, and I believe the Swiharts were very pleased with it, as well.
They came back to Ohio during the summer of 2016 to record a second album in Taylor’s Playground (“Surrounded”). I was super excited to hear that they were coming back again during the summer of 2017 to record their third full-length album.
This third album was a lot of fun to record. Tiffany and Skyler have really matured as singers and performers, and I believe that this album shows it! Their vocal performances are fantastic on this third go-round, and it feels like they have really settled in to who they are as Christian Artists.
Drawing from some of the great hymns of the faith, southern gospel classics, and a contemporary Christian song or two, “Lead Me Home” leaves no question to the fact that the driving motivation for 2Harts Surrendered is to glorify God.
Beginning with the upbeat How Great Thou Art, Skyler opens up the CD with the maturity of an artist who is singing on her third album and clearly knows who she is. The opening banjo line and train beat drum groove for Ain’t No Grave reminds the listener that these girls have some serious Americana / Red Dirt in their blood.
Tiffany takes over on lead vocals for The Sweetest Gift, Jesus Paid It All / I Need Thee Every Hour, and Ghost Riders In the Sky. Her strong, confident lead vocal complimented by Skyler’s softer, sweet background vocals really brings the songs to life! Together, they have the kind of vocal synergy that only a mother and daughter can seem to pull-off.
Unique to this third offering, the ladies brought in special guest singer John Schmid to help out with Are You Washed In the Blood / I’ll Fly Away. John’s iconic voice, alongside Tiffany and Skyler’s right-at-home harmonies, make this a memorable medley.
Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior and Come All You Weary draw on darker drum beats and deeper acoustic guitar rhythms as the girls continue to draw the listener into an awareness of the goodness of God.
Everywhere I Go features another guest vocalist… me. The three of us trade vocal lines back and forth throughout the song as we sing about the fact that God is always with us, everywhere we go, and that one day those whom He has called by name will be with Him in heaven for all of eternity.
The final, title track, Lead Me Home once again features Tiffany’s strong, confident lead vocal, as she sings emotionally moving lyrics that remind of us of Hebrews 13:14: For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in Heaven.
