Above the Sea of Galilee

We took a hike up to the top of a hill (Mt. Arbel -see Hosea 10) that overlooked the Sea of Galilee.

The view was quite impressive! How cool to look down and see the heart of where Jesus performed so many miracles and spent the majority of his time in ministry.

I will read the New Testament differently after seeing the actual geography. When it says that Jesus went from here to there I will have that visual in my mind.

Interesting thought: the idea of “poor fishermen” following Jesus should be dismissed. They were probably quite rich -having a corner of the market for fish only found in this particular lake. What is now known as “St. Peter’s Fish” was apparently quite a delicacy in the roman world. If the disciples “left everything” to follow Christ, they probably left a lot -not a little.
