Photos from India 2026
You probably can’t quite see what is happening in this photo. I’ll try to explain it.
I am taking the photo from inside of a bus. In India, you are supposed to drive on the left side of the road. In the lower left corner of this photo you can see a concrete barrier separating the left lane from the right lane (part of the barrier is painted yellow). Just above the concrete barrier you can see a silver Toyota driving correctly. Just beyond that Toyota, you can see the front windshield of a rickshaw. That rickshaw is also driving correctly. However, beyond that first rickshaw is a second… driving the wrong way. Two motorcycles (both with riders) are also driving the wrong way. Between the two motorcycles you can see a moped driving the “correct” way, but on what is basically the sidewalk. No matter. As you can clearly see, people don’t need a sidewalk in order to get to where they are going. People just walk on the road, in whatever direction they please.
This is India.
I took this photo very early into our trip, thinking I was seeing something rare. It didn’t take long to realize that this kind of scene is not rare at all. This is just India.
