Photo Every Day 2025 – Christmas List

Last year I tried something new for the month of December, leading up to Christmas Day, and I thought it was fun enough to try again this year. I have complied another list of 25 photos I want to take and post in December. (There are quite a few repeat items from last year, but a few fun new ones, as well.) Each day I will attempt to cross one of the items off of the list. Let’s see how the challenge goes this year…

Today’s photo: A Cup of Hot Chocolate

Jodi and I had quite the day… and I have so been looking forward to this very cup of hot chocolate.

On Friday morning we flew down to Memphis, TN. I ran the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on Saturday morning (state #28 on my way to running a marathon in all 50 states by age 50). The St. Jude marathon was awesome!

This morning we woke up at 3:20 am to get a 5k in before heading to the airport to fly back home. We ran, got cleaned up, and got to the airport by 5:30 am, ready for our 7:30 am flight. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed… and then delayed… and then delayed… and then delayed. We finally got on the plane heading for Chicago (our connection flight) at around 11 am. And then we sat on the plane… and we sat… and we sat. We finally took off, but while we were in the air, we were told that there was no way for us to land in Chicago, so we would just have to fly in a circle until we heard back from them. The pilot came over the loudspeaker and said we were cleared to keep flying towards Chicago. About 10 minutes later he made an announcement saying that we were not clear anymore, so we started flying in a circle again. Then he said we were clear again. It was crazy.

We landed in Chicago with about an hour before our flight to Cleveland took off. Then it got delayed… and then delayed… and then delayed. When we landed in Chicago, we got out at gate C30. Our flight to Cleveland was supposed to be in Gate C3, so not a bad walk. Then we got notified that we were supposed to take off from gate G10. That is about a 25 minute walk. We made it with about 20 minutes to spare before our plane took off… but there was another flight leaving from that gate at a similar time. Surely this is not going to be the gate we fly out of, we thought. Sure enough. We were notified that our flight was delayed again, and would be flying out of gate C29. So we walked all the way back to practically where we started so many hours before.

At gate C29 we found two seats and we waited… and waited… and waited. Our flight was delayed, and then delayed again. FINALLY we were able to board our plane… only to sit at the gate for more than an hour before we got clearance to back out and take our spot on the runway.

All the while I kept thinking to myself, I could really use a delicious Starbucks k-cup hot chocolate…

At around 10 pm we made it home (it would have been so much faster to drive), and I was able to make myself a delicious Starbucks k-cup hot chocolate. Praise the LORD!
