Photo Every Day 2025
Tonight I had some running around to do in town, so I asked my son to come with me. He had no idea what he was getting himself into. I didn’t know for sure, either. But since I was in town, I figured I would take a few roads that I barely know to see if I could find something specific that I was pretty sure I had seen off of these roads before… I told him that we were looking for longhorn steers. Somehow he didn’t quite understand the mission.
We were quite a ways into our journey before I realized he thought we were planning to pick up some meat like they sell at Longhorn steakhouse.
“No, son. We are looking for longhorn steers.”
“Oh, okay.”
It was a little while yet before I realized he was looking for a specific kind of deer known as long horse deer.
“No, son. We’re basically looking for cows with big horns.”
“Oh, okay. How will we know if we see them?”
“We’ll know.”
“Oh, okay.”
The problem was that I couldn’t remember what road I had seen them on. Not for sure. So we got a little lost, and finally gave up. Thankfully I basically knew how to get home. We just need to go south, and then west, and we would eventually make it to the road that would take us back home. My son seemed to be amazed that I knew without a compass what direction south and west would be. So I was explaining to him how you can know things like that, and in the middle of explaining…
“There it is!”
