Photo Every Day 2024

I just got back last night from a trip to Narragansett, RI with a group of friends. We all went there to run the Ocean State Road Race. It was a great trip.

Prior to this trip I had never been to Narragansett. In fact, I had never even heard of Narragansett (let alone did I have any clue how to actually pronounce the word). But I have to say that it was a pretty cool little town!

One of the first things you notice, if you should ever happen to visit there, would be what is called The Towers. The Towers is a historic structure that passes over the highway, right next to the beach. Apparently it was originally built as a casino in 1883, but was nearly burnt to the ground in 1900. Nothing remained of the casino but the granite walls of the towers.

More recently, Hurricane Sandy uncovered the foundation and part of the old boardwalk that belonged to the old casino. It had been previously buried by sand.

I took this photo of The Towers on the night that we arrived. As you can see, it is still a pretty hopping place…
