Photo Every Day 2024

I took this photo yesterday while I was taking the updated photo of our backyard. I just had to zoom in on the rather plump bird sitting on our branch.

Did you know that birds retain heat in their body by fluffing out their feathers? It’s true! Some birds appear to be twice as fat in winter as in summer, but they aren’t actually putting on any extra weight. They are merely puffing themselves up, and thickening the insulation around their bodies.

Wild!

From now on, if anyone tries to point out that I am looking a little larger myself this winter, I think I’ll just kindly reply by letting them know I am merely fluffing out my feathers…
