Along with incredible farmland, another awesome aspect to everyday life here in Ohio is the seemingly endless miles of train tracks.

Trains used to be a major part of the economy and industry of the state. While still officially operating more than 5,000 miles of railway (down from more than 9,000 miles in 1920), it is not uncommon to hear the familiar whistle of an oncoming train, or to be stopped at a crossing while a train is passing through.

The first official completed railroad in Ohio stretched from Adrian, MI to Toledo, OH… all the way back in 1836! While only being a 30 mile run, it was the beginning of something that would make a major impact on the state of Ohio.
