Photos from Safari 2023
On our way out of the Masai Mara National Park, I saw the one and only grey crowned crane of our entire trip.
This is the national bird of Uganda, and I saw a quite a few of them while in Uganda. This bird, which is also known as the African crane, is prominently displayed in the very center of the Ugandan flag.
I think these things are so cool. Unfortunately, since my trip to Uganda in 2009, their worldwide status changed from “vulnerable” to “endangered”. There are currently only an estimated 58,000 to 77,000 in the world.
