Meditating on Psalm 103 (part 1)

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!

-Psalm 103:1, ESV

I love this call to worship from Psalm 103. The Psalmist is not only calling us to bless the Lord, but he is calling us to do it with all that is within us. Essentially we are being reminded to worship the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

What a fitting way for David to start this Psalm -and for us to start every day of our lives.

Sometimes we don’t feel like worshiping God, like blessing him. It is during those moments that we have to tell our soul what to do. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

In the coming weeks we will explore more of the reasons that David gives us for blessing the Lord, but for now we will just wrestle with (and hopefully submit to) the truth that we are called to bless him with all that is within us.

Let us bless his holy name today.

APPLICATION: What are some of the reasons that immediately come to mind for you as to why God is worthy of your whole-hearted, focused praise? Write them down. Pray them out. And, if you are so inclined, share them in the comments below.
