Jericho

The sun is killing me! We went south from the beautiful land surrounding the Sea of Galilee and suddenly we entered a dry and barren land. I can’t believe the difference in landscape.

We ate lunch in the city of Jericho and visited the possible (probable) site of the walls of Jericho that were brought to the ground by Joshua. There is really not much to see. You can tell that something was there, but it is nothing like the city of Bet She’an that we saw earlier.

The city was most likely rebuilt in a nearby location by the time that Jesus walked the earth.

Jericho is also the location of Elisha’s spring, and it was just outside of Jericho where Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus.
