ARVE Error: need id and provider

 

This week was a big week for our nation, for America.  We had our elections.  It was a big week.

So many months, years, resources, time, and energy go into this process.  It all comes down to this one day.  It was an exciting day!

My oldest daughter is five, and she was all excited to stay up with me and listen to the radio to find out who was winning the different races.  She kept looking at me and saying, “Daddy, do we know who the President is, yet?  Is it the new President?  Or is it the same President?  Who is it, Daddy?”  She’s five, and she is interested in this.  It was kind of cute…

At the end of the day, in all of these races, there can only be one outcome.  For some people, the candidate that they wanted to be in office didn’t make it.  And for other people, the candidate that they were going for was there!

It’s just one of those things.  It’s just the way that it goes.

It was interesting to be on Facebook and Twitter the next day.  You could just feel that people’s dreams were crushed.  Or they were elated because what they wanted to have take place took place.

And that’s politics…

Some people say, “It’s only politics.”  Other people say, “It’s only politics!”

It is important.  It’s a big deal.  But it has it’s place.

I’m afraid that maybe some people are putting their hope in the wrong thing.  For some people, they had a lot of hope in their candidate and their candidate didn’t win… so that is crushing.  For other people, they put their hope in the candidate that did win.  But that candidate is not going to be able to deliver any kind of lasting peace.  They are not going to be able to do anything other than make policies, really.  They are not going to be able to change hearts.  There is only one King who can change hearts.

In Rome, there was this saying.  It was a very popular political phrase that the roman people knew.  It was this: “There is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved, then by the name of Caesar.”  That was the slogan.  It was a very popular political slogan that encouraged people to put their trust, hope and faith in Caesar -that he would protect them and sustain them.

It’s interesting that the early Christians, the Apostles, they took that very popular phrase and they stole it!  They redeemed it.  They took something that wasn’t true and they made something true out of it.

In Acts 4:12, they say the statement like this: “There is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved… than the name of Jesus!”  And that is truth!

I wrote a song a while back that takes this same truth and puts it to music.  Maybe it will be encouraging to you.

I don’t know where you are at.  I don’t know what is going on in your life, or what you are dealing with.  I don’t know if all your dreams and hopes are crushed, or if you are currently excited but putting your hope in the wrong thing.  But there really is only one name under heaven by which men can be saved, and that is the name of Jesus Christ.

I hope this song is encouraging to you.

There is peace in the midst of chaos.  There is joy in the deepest pain.  There is love for the unlovely.  There is hope.  Jesus is His name.

There is no other name under heaven by which we all can be saved.  When there is nowhere else to turn, there is somewhere else to turn.  There is refuge.  Jesus is His name.

There is grace for those who trust Him.  There is mercy for those ashamed.  There is truth for those who seek Him.  There is hope.  Jesus is His name.
