#5kMay2020 Blog (Day 15)

This amazing group is still going strong…

You’ve got to love the Friday morning long run. My brother and I met in Wooster this morning for three six mile loops. #GoodTimes!

After Wednesday evening’s over Flickinger Hill and back run, my legs were tired. It was also quite hot and humid. I was sweating like crazy. We were smart enough to run six mile loops for the purpose of grabbing some water and refueling between loops. That was a pretty big win.

Overall, it was another great Friday morning long run.

Daily Run: We ran 18 miles in 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 41 seconds, which is an overall average pace of 7:48 per mile. Not bad for a hot and sweaty training run.

Daily Bible Reading: I am always amazed by the careful preservation of the gospel accounts. The first verse in Mark 16 is actually quite important.

When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.

Mark 16:1, ESV

It is shocking that the gospel writers would admit that the first people to notice Jesus was missing from the tomb would be women. Women were not held in nearly as high esteem as men were in that culture. Women could not hold a significant position of authority. A woman’s testimony would not hold nearly the same weight as a man’s testimony.

What would possibly compel the gospel writers to point out that these women were the first to discover that Jesus had risen from the grave?

The truth.

Only the truth, and a strong conviction to tell the truth, could possibly be the motivation for including this piece of information.

In a rather strange way, including this important piece of information, at the risk of being discredited because women were not considered to be credible sources, absolutely magnifies the credibility of the account in my mind.

Beyond the shadow of any reasonable doubt, I am convinced that Jesus died on the cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and rose from the grave. The intentional inclusion of verses like this make me even more convinced.

  1. Checking in from Parma! So proud and pumped to have made it this far! 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed the ride so far.

  2. Since going back to work this week, it has been much harder to have the energy each evening to get out there, but going with a friend several times has helped me to stay dedicated!

  3. Day 15 check in, I’m so thankful for every day I can go out there and run. As a child I had 4 hip surgeries if my parents would have done nothing I would be on a wheelchair. Glory be to GOD

  4. Checking in from Canton! I am still in the 5k a day challenge. It’s been harder than I’anticipated- motivation, internal struggles, tired legs, etc.., but I’m learning new things about myself, my physical body, my spiritual body…so the challenge is worth it for this reason alone! I am still on the fence about the Mayhem challenge. It would definitely push me out of my comfort zone. I think I’m going to say yes, but it quite possibly will be me just doing as many as I can. I sincerely doubt I can finish them all!

  5. Oh no! I missed the check in day!! 🙁 I kept thinking yesterday ‘there’s something I was supposed to do today.’ This morning when I opened my email I remembered – check in!!
