#5kMay2019 Day 6 (BLOG)

We’re almost a full week into the challenge! Great job to everyone who is hanging in there. I really think the first week is the hardest.

Today I got down to the Fredericksburg trail with my buddy, Derrick (who is also participating in #5kMay2019). He was feeling a little sore from running a mere 75 miles on Saturday… He had some monstrous blisters on his feet, so we slowed down a little bit and settled for 4.5 miles at a 7:35 pace.

I was happy for the slightly slower pace. I need to start slowing down and stretching out as I prepare for my marathon on May 17.

I hope everyone is enjoying the podcast! It is officially available in the Apple Podcast app and through iTunes.

One thing that stood out to me from today’s reading was the religious leaders’ demand for a sign from Jesus.

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

(Matthew 16:1, ESV)

What?!

Were they blind?! Jesus was performing miracles all over the place! What more could they possibly want from Him?! I think it is safe to say that for the spiritually blind, hard-hearted haters, no sign in the world would be enough to satisfy their skepticism.

Amazingly, just one chapter back, Jesus performed all kinds of clearly recognizable miracles. The appropriate result was that the people glorified God.

And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.

(Matthew 15:30–31, ESV)

So which category do we fit into? Are we in the camp of the religious leaders who were spiritually blind and hard-hearted, refusing to give God glory for the amazing things He has done? Or are we in the camp that recognizes God’s goodness in our lives and willingly glorifies Him for it?

  1. Today was a fun day for me. I ran a route that I have not run for awhile and the soreness is starting to go away for me. Whoo!
That is a good and changing Question. How much glory are we giving to God each day? For me, sometimes I can and sometimes I don’t give him enough like I should.
    Thanks for the reminder.
