#5kMay2018 Day 23

img_5921I do enjoy running with the Wooster Running Group that meets every Wednesday night at Vertical Runner of Wooster to get in a nice run. Tonight we ran a 6 mile loop around Wooster, OH. It was just a wonderfully pleasant run. I ran 6.2 miles in 47 minutes and 12 seconds, which was an average pace of 7:36 per mile.

Today we finished the Gospel of Luke and begin to traverse through the Gospel of John. John’s Gospel is so incredibly different from Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Yes, of course there is a lot of overlap, but John also tends to go deeper and wider with his look at the life and ministry of Jesus -which he had the privilege of witnessing first-hand.

I loved the stark contrast of today’s reading. We read Luke’s account of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus in Luke 23-24, and then followed it up with John’s description of Jesus in John 1.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5, ESV

Amen!

Today’s reading felt a little like watching a movie in medias res. We got to experience the middle of the story, and then went right back to the beginning!  Of course, we will finish this #5kMay2018 reading challenge by looking at “the end” of the story -where the disciples finally get it and begin to advance the gospel throughout the entire world!

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet…

Today I am simply amazed by the extent of the love that Jesus was willing to show us by dying on the cross. This Jesus was with God in the beginning. He is the very Word made flesh. All things were made through Him and without Him was not anything made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. His light still shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not -and will not, for it can not- overcome His light!

That’s my Jesus!

  1. Another day down. Tonight I ran with the group run and felt good. Still a little tender from my marathon but feel like I’m starting to become normal. Well as normal as I can be. I had a 5.5 Miles I ran and a 8:45 pace. Some sore muscles here and there but didn’t have a limp. That was great.
It’s funny how reading scripture time after time and you still find new things. I really don’t know why this stuck out but it did.
“And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Pilate sent Jesus to Harod to have him judge Jesus and the Harod sent him back to Pilate. I wonder how they came friends after that? Or why? It’s strange to me why this was mentioned but it was. Guess I would say interesting to me.
