#5kMay2018 Day 21

img_5910Twenty one days strong! We’ve got this!

Today Jodi got her morning 5k in without me. I chose to sleep a little later and run in the afternoon. Well, truthfully, I didn’t even know she was gone, so I guess it wasn’t much of a choice…

We had an exciting moment today at the Polen household. The brand new Polen Band “There is Nothing New Under The Sun (Vol. 2)” CDs arrived on our front porch late this morning -courtesy of UPS! I have personally poured a LOT of time and energy into this album and it is always exhilarating to open a box containing hours and hours of your life’s work.

We will be having a CD Release Party on Friday, June 1 at 7pm at New Grounds Café in Walnut Creek, OH. That will be the day after #5kMay2018 concludes, so what better way could there possibly be to celebrate all of our combined hard work and success?!

If you are interested in buying tickets, they are $10 each and you can get them HERE. We are only selling 100 tickets, and the ticket includes a FREE copy of the brand new CD.

I didn’t get out for a morning run with my bride, but I did have an afternoon run planned with Derrick Miller in Fredericksburg. We ran 6.2 miles in 43 minutes and 44 seconds. That is an average pace of 7:01 per mile.

It was a funny run, because it was an out and back run on the trail. We were flying on the way out. Then we turned around, and I was not flying anymore. I didn’t realize that the wind was at my back for the first 3.1 miles. I realized it when we turned around and it was in my face during the second 3.1 miles!

It is amazing how you can be just going through life, not realizing how great you have it until everything changes! This must be something like how the disciples felt. They were traveling along with Jesus, not knowing that they had the wind at their backs. Sure, they complained and argued and murmured, but they really had it going on. Jesus tried to warn them that the winds would soon be changing.

And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” (Luke 18:31–33, ESV)

Things would soon get very difficult and they would wish that He was still with them.

And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. (Luke 17:22, ESV)

I don’t know where you are at today. Maybe you are running with the wind at your back and you know it! Maybe things are going great and you are well aware of it! Great! Just don’t forget that everything can change in a moment, and the only thing that really matters is Jesus.

Maybe you are running with the wind at your back and you don’t know it. Take a moment to realize how much God has blessed you. Take a moment to be thankful! Everything can change in a moment, but God gives us these seasons of blessings to enjoy.

Maybe you are running with the wind full in your face and you are well aware. Take heart! Jesus is with you now, also. That is the biggest thing that the disciples struggled to understand. Jesus was not going to leave them harassed and helpless and all alone. He died, was buried, rose again, and ascended to the right hand of the Father! Now He ever lives to intercede for us and has sent His Spirit to be with us always, to the end of the age.

Praise God!

  1. I always enjoy reading your posts. Taking life events and turning them into biblical perspectives. I have days when I feel the winds at my back, then days when it’s in my face, then also days where it’s a whirlwind. Having gone through a divorce it seems the whirlwind hits me a lot, but I always see Christ coming through and being with me every step of the way. I’ve learned to change my outlook on things and not identify myself as a divorced man, but as a man of Christ who went through a divorce. That helps keep the wind at my back!

    • Amen! God is good -even when we or our circumstances are not! Thanks for reading, and good job chugging along for the #5kMay2018 challenge! You are doing great!

  2. Today was one of my hardest days to motivate my feet to go. I had a 11:46 pace and stiff legs.
I don’t recall the scripture about the parable of the persistent widow. Pray is important cause it’s a communication to God. Specially on stuff I care about why don’t I take it to him over and over persistently? This was s great reminder.

    • Haha. Yes. I can believe that your first ever marathon recovery run was a hard day! Way to get it done, though!!

I love the parable of the persistent widow. Sometimes I am afraid that I am a bother to God because I keep asking for the same things over and over again, but it sure seems from the scriptures that He actually loves it when we are faithful and persistent in our asking.

  3. We got to do our 5K in Chicago yesterday! It was a wet rainy day, but we still had a lot of fun. It was great to just take a stroll and take everything in. We also did our reading I just love how Luke changes the stories and gives us a different perspective.
