#5kMay2018 Day 13
Happy Mother’s Day!! Jodi and I decided to sleep in a bit this morning instead of running in the thunderstorm before church. After church we had her mom and dad over for a meal to celebrate Mother’s Day. Afterwards, we went to the local high school track as a family to get our daily 5k. #SundayFunDayFamilyRunDay
I actually ran from our home, so I already had about 1.5 miles before I got to the track. Jodi and the kids were already making their way around the track when I got there. Eden (our three-year-old) wanted to run with me, so I ran a bit with her during the second mile. She didn’t last very long. I told her I had to keep running and she decided to just hang out and wait for the next kid to come along.
I definitely did not have a consistent run. My first mile was at a 7:32 pace, my second at 8:21, and my third at 6:58. Overall, I ran 3.1 miles in 23 minutes and 30 seconds, which was an average pace of 7:35 per mile.
We had a great, thought-provoking sermon from Daniel 5 this morning at church. I would be tempted to just talk about that, because it is the majority of what has been occupying my mind this afternoon, but I will stick to the script and talk about Mark 9-11.
I was most challenged today by the end of Mark 11.
And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” (Mark 11:27-28, ESV)
If only they truly desired to know the answer to this question, they could have seen God for who He really is and put their faith in Jesus!
“By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”
Clearly, by their own admission, they had witnessed what He had done. They had seen His miracles. They had heard His teaching. They were not ignorant of His work. So how did they miss Him?
I love what C.S. Lewis said about Jesus.
Jesus Christ was either a liar, a lunatic, or He was who He said He was. – C.S. Lewis
Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.
Forget about the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders for a moment. What about you? Are you willing to listen to Him? Are you willing to accept that He is who He says He is?
To you, personally, is He a liar or a lunatic? Or do you treat Him as Lord?

A nice run again today. I had to get 6 miles in today for my other running plan. Which on my route I was going to take the road was closed because of a tree and I wasn’t able to get through so I had to switch routes. Ended up with 6.2 miles at a 8:57 pace which considering I had 616ft of elevation I thought was good.
One thing that keeps coming up in my readings is faith. There was peter stepping out of the boat and sunk because of lack of faith. There was the women touching the garment of Jesus and was healed because she had faith. Today it stuck out about the boy that the disciples couldn’t heal because lack of faith. It’s been challenging to think as a personal level where is my faith? It’s so easy to think these are great stories but God is unchanging and is still the same God.
Truth! God is still the same God and wants to work powerfully through us! Lord, give me the faith to believe it and to walk in it!
We got our 5k in first thing this morning at a time of 29:57 and also our reading is done!
