#5kMay2018 Day 4
We finally made it back home! I was able to get a nice, smooth 5k in when I woke up this morning in Troy, IL. I ran 3.26 miles in 25 minutes and 2 seconds, which was an average pace of 7:40 per mile. After the morning run, we were on the road and heading for home!
I was able to get my Bible reading done in the car while Jodi drove for a bit. The main point that stuck out to me today revolved around the miracles of Jesus. I especially love this portion from Matthew 12.
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” He answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. (Matthew 12:38-42, ESV)
I have met so many self-proclaiming “Christians” who do not believe in the story of Jonah. In fact, they don’t believe in many of the miracles of the Old Testament (and many from the New, as well). I don’t understand that. Jesus Himself uses the story of Jonah as an example of what will happen. He uses the story as fact, as if it actually happened. I believe this is because it did happen!
Jesus really was a miracle worker. Jesus is God. God is a miracle worker.
I find it fascinating that the scribes and Pharisees wanted to see a sign from Jesus. Weren’t they paying attention?! He was doing miracles and giving signs just about everywhere he went! How did they miss them?!
Truthfully, I believe that God is still doing miracles and giving signs just about everywhere. How do we miss them?!
I am convinced that, although God is working miracles every day, only those who are willing to see it will be able to see it. Those who stubbornly refuse to believe in Jesus, like the scribes and Pharisees, will not see or acknowledge the work of God in their every day lives.
Of course, we can be actively praying that God would change their hearts and open their eyes.
Let those who have ears hear. Let those who have eyes see.

Haha! So true! I often think the same thing when I read the New Testament. It is funny how some names stick and some do not. Dave is a nice, timeless name. But when is the last time that you held a baby Jeroboam in your arms?! That name didn’t stick.
Today’s run was a better one for me. I was able to go right after a rain so it was a little cooler. That was nice. I got my 3.1 in and had a 7:58 pace. Not bad for me.
This stuck out to me.

I went with the message this time. It wasn’t long ago that I went through some rough times. Being bull headed I thought I had it under control but I didn’t. I’ve had to learn to take it to God. This verse was a reminder to me. Also reminds me of the song O Come To The Alter.

We got our 5k and reading in for today. Our time was 28 minutes, 5 seconds (9:03/mile pace). One thing that stuck out to me from the reading was in chapter 10 when Jesus is sending out the disciples. He talks about all the harsh things they will be going through. From a worldly perspective, it sounds terrible and like something nobody would do. However, I do not believe there is any account of the disciples complaining about this. They knew the greater purpose.
Good job! Getting that time down closer to last year!! Thanks for the input on the disciples. It does seem like followers of Christ today (especially in America) experience less persecution, yet complain more. That’s not good. We need to fix our eyes on that greater purpose you mentioned!
